International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is celebrated on June 26 each year. This is an exercise conducted by the world community to raise awareness in general and youth in particular, the threat of drugs.
Today, no part of the world that is free from the curse of drug addiction and drug trafficking. India is also trapped in this vicious cycle of drug abuse, and the number of drug addicts are increasing day by day. Million drug addicts, worldwide, lead miserable lives, between life and death.
The epidemic of substance abuse in the young generation has reached alarming proportions in India. Changing cultural values, increased economic stress and decreased support bonds are leading to initiation into substance use.
Drug abuse is a complex phenomenon, which has various social, cultural, biological, geographical, historical and economic. The disintegration of the old joint family system, lack of parental love and care in modern families where both parents work, the decline of the old religious and moral values, and so lead to an increase in the number of addicts Drug taking drugs to escape the harsh reality of life.
The vulnerability to addiction differs from person to person. Genes, environment, mental health, social and family play a role in addiction. Risk factors that increase vulnerability include factors such as family history of addiction, abuse, neglect, or other traumatic experiences in childhood.
Teens experiment with drugs for many different reasons. Many first try drugs out of curiosity to have a good time, because friends are doing, to join the group or in an effort to improve athletic performance or ease other problems such as stress, anxiety or depression. Mere use does not automatically lead to abuse, and there is no specific level at which the drug moves from casual to a problem. This varies by individual.
Drug abuse and addiction is not so much the amount of substance used or the frequency, and more to do with the consequences of drug use. No matter how often or how little you are eating, if the drug is causing problems in your life - at work, school, home or relationships - is likely to have a substance abuse problem or addiction.
The warning signs that parents should consider are the following.Withdrawal from family: If the child starts spending too much time away from home or locked in your room, as a parent it is your responsibility to identify what's behind the move.
Changes in physical appearance: unexplained weight loss or weight gain, unusual ulcers in the body, shock and / or cuts, burns, especially of the hands or face, facial flushing or skin irritation, eye irritation and often strange odors on clothing, dilated pupils, glassy eyes or red.
Unexplained changes of personality: It's natural personality changes that occur during the young adult years, which is the time when men and women develop their individuality adult.
